WHAT IS THE PRP INJECTION?
At Kate Nicole Wellness Center, our method of Platelet Rich Plasma Therapy is a natural, safe and highly effective way to combat the negative effects of injury, specific medical conditions and skin ageing.
Each PRP injection involves the extraction, processing and deposition of plasma-rich blood into various parts of the face and body. Platelets, known for their clotting ability, contain hundreds of proteins known as growth factors, which play a crucial role in the body’s ability to heal itself.
Platelet rich plasma (PRP) contains ten times more growth factors than normal blood. This is due to the fact that the Angel centrifuge separates the concentrated platelets from red blood cells, which are discarded in favour of the growth factor-rich PRP solution. These growth factors initiate tissue repair and attract the body’s own stem cells to areas of damaged tissue in order to both fortify and expedite the regenerative process.
Sports personalities, celebrities and actresses in the public eye have frequently cited Platelet Rich Plasma Therapy as an effective means of hastening recovery from injuries and rejuvenating the skin of the face, hands and neck.
As an effective treatment in both aesthetic medicine and orthopedics, Kate Nicole will be offering Platelet Rich Plasma Therapy at it's Yorkville location for sports injuries and as part of physical therapy programs, as well as for aesthetic skin rejuvenation.

How is PRP performed?
The procedure takes about 30 minutes and is performed in our clinic. A few ounces of blood are collected and the blood is placed in a centrifuge, to separate the different types of blood cells. The injury site is cleansed and numbed with a local anesthetic. The PRP solution is directed into the injured tissues under ultrasound guidance. Proteins are released from the PRP solution within minutes to start the healing process. Patients are advised to rest and use ice for any swelling that may occur within the first 48 hours. Most people resume normal activities within the week, however complete healing may take up to 3 months. Physical therapy is usually combined with PRP therapy to promote the return of strength and mobility. The number of injections needed is dependent on the amount of skin to be treated, or, in cases of injuries, the extent of the problem. With aesthetic PRP injections, we use a micro-injection technique, whereby a small amount of PRP is deposited at regular intervals directly under the skin.
A growing number of conditions have demonstrated improvement with platelet-rich plasma therapy. Clinical studies have demonstrated safety and efficacy for the treatment of: Advances in musculoskeletal ultrasound (MSK US) have had a profound impact on the treatment of musculoskeletal injuries. Diagnostic ultrasound, in the hands of a well-skilled physician, facilitates early and accurate diagnosis. Furthermore, treatments such as PRP are combined with ultrasound guidance to improve safety, comfort and positive outcome of your treatment. By identifying the general area where the injections need to be given, then applying ultrasound imaging we can see the joints, ligaments and tendons moving in real time. This allows us to pinpoint the area that needs to be treated and guide the injection exactly where it can provide the greatest healing benefit.
WHAT KIND OF RESULTS CAN I EXPECT FROM PLATELET RICH PLASMA THERAPY?
At Kate Nicole when we treat injuries and medical conditions with PRP injections, a reduction in pain and an increase in mobility levels are often reported after a month to six weeks. To be on the safe side, restraint from certain physical activities including rigorous exercise and heavy lifting is advisable throughout this period.
When we perform Platelet Rich Plasma Therapy at Kate Nicole for our skin rejuvenation clients, we expect the skin to be mildly swollen and flushed for up to 3 days. Mineral makeup and anti-inflammatory topical products may be applied throughout the first five days. After the first week has passed, you will notice significant improvements and at three weeks, you will appreciate a remarkable difference in the quality of your skin. Results typically peak at three months and retain for at least one year.
Single treatments are possible, although a course of six treatments is recommended.
